Our Guild - StarCainam, who have been around for quite a long time (probably fought against alot of you guys in GvG ).
Anyway, one of our members Arlan Tempus was banned recently for trading things that he had gotten in game for Real life money. Anybody who has met Arlan around will know that he would never do that, everything he has gotten that he does not need, he gives away to guildies or any passing bod that needs it. He is a superb competitor and will never leave a Team member behind (he is a monk do't you know) and obviously we as a Guild (and friends of his despite never meeting in real life (TM)) do not want to leave him behind either.
I was wondering if anybody else had suffered from this treatment by Arena.net wherby they will not allow anybody to even question their decision despite it being complete rubbish ? If anybody has met Arlan about and agrees that GW have made a big mistake in banning him from the game on completely spurious charges could they please visit this petition - (link killed) - and sign up or post your experiences here.
Thanks,
Darkron
Mods, please move if this is in the wrong place

I have no idea about your friend but it really does seem ridiculous that the innocent are punished and they fail so miserably when it comes to dealing with people who are blatantly guilty. and it's getting worrying going to towns and finding people running around being rude to everyone they meet. (beating the censors by adding a space in between random letters in the words). even if you report them. I saw the person playing on the game every day after I'd report one such incident.(friends list. great for keeping track of enemies)
Thats one problem that ANet has with banning people for ebaying. How do you tell the difference between a nice person and an ebayer just by looking at thier tradings?
You guys cant really blame ANet. Blame it on the ebayers. ANet is obviously mad at the situation of eBay, so to make the game better for the community they ban people. Sure, its not the right thing to do, as many many innocent people have been banned for this. Just because it looks like he may of traded something for real money or whatever the case is, ANet will ban him. In the end theres not much you can do but sign a petition, and hope ANet hears you.

I defend Anet to the death on a lot of things, but a wrongful ban is Anet's fault, one way or another. They pulled the trigger, it's their fault for messing up. That's like blaming the real criminal that an innocent man was put behind jail. The police and the court system screwed up - it didn't do it's job effectively.
That's not to say that any of these people are innocent or guilty; unfortunately, on a public forum, there's no way for us to tell either way.

I agree with you. But the difference between GW and RL is that irl its possible to have proof of them doing something, but on GW its basically instincts. ANet thought he was an ebayer or whatever, so they banned him. No, its not right. He should be unbanned. But since theres no proof that he isnt an ebayer, ANet has the upper hand here

What you say they do is in direct contradiction to what they say they do.

According to Anet, they go through a deep analysis before banning. Which includes proof.
That isn't to say that innocents can't get banned, but they don't use instincts.
I myself was banned from Guild Wars withour warning. After a few days of emailing NCsoft's support center, it turns out it was a mistake. They were mass banning people that had traded with known ebayers or something like that.

I've actually been expecting this since the most recent mass bannings. Tell your guildy to repeatedly respond to the same email until he/she get's a higher up representative for the admin team. The first e-mail is ALWAYS an automated response, so tell him to reply to that one right away anyways and not to be discouraged. Eventually, your friend will get in touch with a higher up and he WILL be able to plead his case. Please tell him to be courteous, as they simply don't have to listen to him. Tell him to be precise about what he talks about, with a minimum of ramblings, and even if they say that the support ticket is "Closed", reply anyway. Do not let them close it. They will re-evaluate the banning and see if it really was a mistake or if it was legit.
Or, as leprekan would put it, "Explode their inbox".
None of you actually knew him in real life, so you cant actually prove to ANet that he DIDNT buy anything. I dont know the guy myself, but if I did, that wouldnt change my mind. If a friend of mine was banned for that, I'd just assume he did what he was banned for because I dont actually have any proof
That's the whole point, though. We don't know if he actually did it. But, I'd like to point out that the last time A.Net did mass bannings, there were more than a few "Wrongful Terminations of Service" because of fair and legal trasactions with known botters and e-bayers. They follow item trails, and some of those trails point to innocent players. Please don't just say that's he's guilty because A.Net says so, because they've made mistakes in the past.

And you wouldn`t have proof that he did do it either. You my friend aren`t a very good friend and won`t have friends for long. To be a friend, you stand by that person through thick or thin.

Quoted for truth.
Keep on sending support tickets, be polite, eventually you will get your account unbanned and ANET will admit that they have made an error in the banning.

You dont know that they made an error... you dont work for ANet

Thats my point, I dont have proof that he did or didnt do it, but ANet does. I trust their decisions, they only banned 1000 people, they didnt do this lazily or they would have banned more people. I dont call anyone I dont know in RL a "true friend"
If it was someone I knew in real life and I had ACCES TO THEIR ACCOUNT AT ALL TIMES. And had 100% proof that they didnt do anything, THEN, and only then would I protest.
I have friends and I trust my friends but it is not good to always take someones word. People lie, simple as that. Dont tell me I'm not a good friend because, YOU HAVE NO PROOF that im not a good friend.
